CARLY MCDOWELL of MEDITATION BASE

Hello TradieWives Community, my name is Carly and learning the art of Vedic meditation has dramatically transformed my life in such a positive and wonderful way and I would love to help you transform yours.

I am so grateful to be asked to share with you an insight into meditation and more personally, how it has changed my life. I’m a teacher of Vedic Meditation and deeply passionate about the benefits as it’s been integral to my emotional well-being and overall health and happiness. I can honestly tell you that it helped me navigate through the darkest days of my life.

If you find that feeling stressed is your ’norm’, then this is for you.

  1. What is Meditation?

Meditation is the experience of going beyond the mind to experience greater awareness and inner contentedness. It enables the mind some space between thought and action.

  1. Will meditation help me feel less stressed & help with my anxiety?

Absolutely it will! Studies show that meditation is proven to be the most effective antidote to stress and helps heal the body naturally.

We are accumulating more stress than ever before in our busy modern lives, and more than sleep alone can neutralise. Many of us are sleep-deprived too, which adds an additional load to our nervous systems.

According to the World Health Organisation, stress is the health epidemic of the 21st Century and for most people being stressed is the new ’norm’. A recent study stated that 75% of Australians have admitted that stress has adversely effected their physical health and that half of those suffering stress were also suffering anxiety.

Vedic Meditation is famous for eliminating stress and works to balance the nervous system and proven to combat stress and fatigue.

  1. I’m not into Yoga and sitting still isn’t my thing.

You don’t have to be a yogi or be interested in a yoga practice at all. This is just a very simple mental technique that is invaluable for anyone looking to gain the benefits of a calmer, less stressful day to day mental state.

You can practice anywhere as long as you’re sitting comfortably, and you don’t have to sit cross-legged so it could be on the couch, in a parked car waiting to pick up children from school (or if you’re the passenger while someone is driving), on a flight, at the beach, just about anywhere you can sit comfortably and take 20 minutes.

  1. A very common myth – “I can’t meditate because I can’t stop thinking”! You are not alone and everyone can meditate!

If you can think, you can meditate. Vedic Meditation doesn’t require you to switch off or stop thinking. This technique transcends (goes beyond) the mind with the use of a mantra (word or sound) that acts a vehicle to de-excite the busy mind and take you deep below the layer of thoughts. The mind is naturally drawn to the mantra so the technique becomes effortless. Essentially it’s very easy once you know how.

  1. What are some of the other benefits gained from a meditation practice?

Aside from effects around stress and high cortisol levels being reduced, meditation also enables a deep state of rest during a 20 minute period that is several times deeper than sleep. You are rejuvenating your entire system and allowing healing to take place within the physiology. If you are sleep deprived this is definitely going to support you!

Being in a constant state of stress and fatigue leads to many other health issues, and is directly correlated to depression, a weakened immune system, high blood pressure and it goes on.

Additionally, brain function becomes optimised, so you are able to process more coherently with an integrated brain which therefore leads to a host of benefits including having more clarity, focus and flexibility. Overall you will feel enriched, less burnt-out and less reactive. So making difficult decisions becomes easier, the way you communicate improves and it elevates your overall state of wellbeing.

It’s so important that we make our wellbeing a priority. If you don’t, life on every level will reflect this and things will feel difficult, forced, and a constant battle of health related or relationship related issues.

  1. How does it work?

Vedic Meditation is a natural and effortless mantra-based technique that is practiced for 20 minutes twice a day.  It promotes a deep state of rest and gives your body and mind the daily reset it needs to manage life with ease and greater fulfilment. The benefits of this daily practice flow in to our waking state as we gain more awareness, clarity, creativity and become more calm & centred.

There is a wonderful documentary called ‘Heal’ that I would recommend to anyone seeking to learn more about the health benefits of meditation and the body-mind connection from neuroscientists through to world renowned spiritual healers.

End game – life is more joyful and fulfilling. All you have to do is sit comfortably for 20 minutes twice a day and close your eyes – and life will improve naturally.
